Default Finding your audience

Like Lori said, the internet is a great tool. It can be a great tool to get your music out there. But there is more to it than just finding your audience. You should have decent recordings before delving in because a few bad recordings can more scare a potential audience than help you create a long term relationship. Many people are nice and would not say, " hey, you know, that song isnt bad but that recording is horrible!" Let's say you put out a CD of the lowest possible quality. How many of those same people who bought that CD would buy a second? Have you helped your cause or hurt it? I think the quality of what you put out is reflected universally. How many would go out of their way to see your show if the CD they have on hand isn't all that great? In the 1980's, low quality demos were pretty much the standard with a cassette 4 track. With today's tools, there isn't much of an excuse not to have a semi-decent product available for your listeners. In fact, it is the new standard. So work hard to produce something that you are proud of and you know your listeners will be happy with. If you do not have the means, then perhaps patience is the best course of action. Wait until you do! Otherwise, what could have been a potentially large audience might end up a much smaller audience and never have the potential to grow beyond.
